Transport by Inland Waterway

For a number of reasons, including their size, inland water vessels are particularly suitable for transporting very large or particularly heavy cargo. Inland water transport is ideal for transporting bridge elements, turbines and power plant components of sizes that are extremely difficult or impossible to haul by road.

In Germany alone, federal waterways have a total length of more than 7000 km. We can also provide or organize the transportation of your goods by inland waterway beyond the borders of Europe, all the way to the CIS states - for example on the Dnieper, Pripyat and Beresina rivers or the Dnieper-Bug Canal.

Especially Russia has the longest network of inland waterways in the world, with about 12,000 km of navigable rivers. That makes them particularly suitable for transporting very large cargo. Canals like the White Sea-Baltic Sea Canal, the Volga-Don Canal and the Moscow-Volga Canal permit the transportation of cargo from Europe to most destinations in Russia without switching carrier.

Arnold Schwerlast GmbH & Co. KG have the extensive know-how needed to select the right type of ship for unusual cargo. Moreover, we have just the right partners with specialized equipment to cater to our customers’ special requirements.
